DAY 17, MILE 1
Day 17 running across America, 70 miles per day.
This trip is nothing if not dynamic. We had a couple great days, and then yesterday we had to make that difficult decision, which has always been a challenge for me when injuries progress into true problems. Do you pause or do you push through?
Fortunately or unfortunately, I've always been someone that was willing to push through until it broke. It is always just what I did. I kind of admire people who can do that in some ways. But a part of, I think, getting wiser, older, and smarter, is working on the art—because there's no perfect answer on making the decision to pause in the right moment. That's a tough one because you don't want to "quit." But at the same time, with such a long several weeks ahead, we have to be strategic.
So anyway, yesterday we closed out about two and a half hours early and probably iced for at least four plus hours between ice baths and just being packed with ice. And on the flip side, I'm being rewarded with actually still running. So the lesson for me has been stay smart, stay strategic. The goal is to get to Baltimore and that's what we're going to keep doing.
