DAY 13: THE ONLY WAY OUT IS THROUGH
Day 13: That trail we thought we were hitting at 3 AM, we actually hit at 2 AM—and it was not short. We didn't get done with that until, well, it was about 7 1⁄2 hours later. That was the worst trail I think I've ever been on in my life.
The phrase that kept going on through my brain was "the only way out is through," because we were in such a bad place that you couldn't turn back, you had to go forward. It was hours and hours of, just imagine taking Yosemite, days three, four, five, those awful days, cramming them into the front chunk of the first seven to eight miles—and on top of that, putting it into a dry creek bed instead of a road. It was awful.
Then we still had another 15 miles after that of not enjoyable territory. So we're trying to rally. It's what you have to do. We can't stay here. So the only way out is through. Keep moving. And that'll be the mantra for the day.
